Sometimes I long to float away. Not with any great fanfare, but just float. On gentle waves, and with no particular destination. Just somewhere, where no one is waiting for me, no one expects anything from me, I don’t have to talk to anyone, and all I have to do is what I want. Consequences of being the oldest child, I guess.

When I look out at the ocean, I sometimes think of all the lasses in times past who did such things as load their pockets with rocks and simply sink to the bottom, never to be seen or heard from again. How sad for them. How traumatic a death. Too bad they didn’t just whip up a raft and float away to better seas.
